How do you promote concerts?

Jamie Syer just wrote a post pondering the question  ”Getting the news out…what would you do?.”

Some of his thoughts:

  • Forming personal connections
  • Phone calls vs. impersonal emails

My first thought:

  • Text isn’t enough when it comes to email and social media. Video is the new way of showing people that the concert will be good, instead of telling them!
  • I’m also a big fan of under age 14 get in free because they will often bring a parent. At one concert I personally gave out 200 tickets for youth (tickets marked for under 14 only) and it was quite successful.

Some of the most successful concerts I’ve been part of are ones where the performers took on a large part of the responsibility for getting the audience in the door. A lot to ask when we’re also the ones doing the practising and the rehearsing…but we’re also, often, the ones with the contacts, and the friends who want to come hear us play.
