A new release from Canadian’s Clive Titmuss and Susan Adams:
A Lute for Christmas is a spoken-word album: It celebrates music, creativity and the joy which we can experience through art, as an ancient forest spirit is transformed into a mystical instrument.
The story is by Susan Adams and it tells the tale of Emily, a yew tree. Share Emily’s journey from her rainforest home to a luthier’s workshop where she meets with other wood-spirits as they are joined into a lute.
Susan’s story was inspired by a yew-wood lute built by Clive Titmuss in Venetian style, and it was originally written for a live concert. Vancouver actor Anna Hagan’s sensitive reading brings Emily and her friends to life. Clive underscores the story with the melancholy 17th Century tune Daphne, which is played on the lute which he built.
The mystic character of the yew tree extends into the distant past. Revered by the Celts of pre-Roman Europe, the yew is still found in churchyards all over Britain, a guardian of departed spirits. During the Renaissance, yew was the premier wood of the great Italian lute makers.
We’re happy to let you know that A Lute for Christmas is available on www.itunes.com, www.cdbaby.com and most digital download sites for $2.99. It’s the perfect gift for young people of all ages!
