An announcement from Raffi Altounian:
The Royal Conservatory of Music Guitar Ensemble and musical director Raffi Altounian would like to invite you to participate in its 24th season. We’re inviting guitarists to join our ensemble and be a part of its ongoing commitment to guitar chamber music.
In the last decade, the scope of the ensemble has grown to include the hosting of the annual Royal Conservatory Guitar Ensemble Festival in the incomparable concert venues at the new Telus Centre For The Performing Arts at the Royal Conservatory. Recent participants have included guitar ensembles from the University of Toronto, York University, Queens University and Bramalea S.S. . These concerts have included performances of ensemble works, concerti, premieres of new works and collaborations with choirs, percussionists and a variety of guest instrumentalist. In addition to this festival, this year, we’ve been invited to perform as part of a concert at Queen’s University.
Last season, as part of an ongoing thematic element to our choice of repertoire, the ensemble performed a collection of works by Ravel and Gershwin as part of its exploration of music that was influenced by the Jazz movement at the turn of the 20th century. This upcoming season will focus on music adapted, arranged and inspired by the “British Invasion” of the sixties; music by The Beatles, The Who and The Rolling Stones.
The ensemble holds bi-weekly rehearsals on Sundays between 1-3pm at the RCM and will have winter and spring performances. For registration information, please contact the Royal Conservatory of Music at (416)408-2825, or on the web at www.rcmusic.ca . If you have any specific questions with regards to the ensemble, please feel free to contact musical director, Raffi Altounian at raffialtounian@yahoo.com or by phone at (416)528-5349.
