EXERCISE #11
The upper system gives the rhythm on open-strings. The lower system is intended for use after the upper system has been confidently mastered. Do not play the two staves as a duet.
The difference in this exercise is the 9/8 time signature. Be sure to feel the extra weight of the pulse on beat one, four and seven. Remember that 9/8 feels like triple time, that is, the pulse of 1–2–3–: Strong – Weak – Weak – Medium Strong – Weak – Weak – Medium Strong – Weak – Weak.
