I also could not find a video for Tengyue Zhang, first place winner of the GFA Youth Competition Senior Division.
Mr. Zhang is from Beijing, where he studies with Chen Zhi. Mr. Zhi, who is at the Central Conservatory, Beijing, has had a steady stream of highly successful students and should be considered one of the best guitar instructors in the world. Those who heard Mr. Zhang in Austin can testify that his performance was quite brilliant – technically flawless and very musical. It could have easily won first place in adult international competitions.

He played the Allegro assai from Bach’s C major unaccompanied violin sonata, Introduction & Caprice of Regondi, and Aquarelle #3 of Assad. I was sitting with Greg Byers; after the Regondi we both looked at each other in astonishment. I have heard many talented young players in youth competitions around North America, but Tengyue Zhang was unforgettable.

For those impetuous, impatient students out there, Mr. Zhi always uses a metronome in his teaching. Always.
