The Rhythm Trainer for guitarists is from my publication “Guitar Victoria – Studio Series Vol. 2″.
EXERCISE #9
The upper system gives the rhythm on open-strings. The lower system is intended for use after the upper system has been confidently mastered. Do not play the two staves as a duet.
The difference in this exercise is the changing time signatures. Be sure to feel the extra weight of the pulse on beat one. Many students often believe it is not necessary to practise something as ‘modern’ as changing time signatures but the benefits are wide ranging. When playing mixed time signatures the student really has to pay attention to counting and the rhythms and this active thought process strengthens their reading skills on multiple levels. Get to it folks!
