I love technique that covers as much ground as possible in as little time needed. This is an exercise I use on a regular basis but make sure you are rock solid on your Left Hand Finger Placements exercises and basic slurs.

Tips for practising:

• The circled numbers below the staff indicate string number. Don’t forget!
• Spend a good deal of time on the shifting exercise itself. Don’t cheat yourself by moving onto the slurs before you care relaxed and precise with the shifts and finger placements.
• Go slow and use a metronome. These are tricky so start very slow and get smooth legato eighth notes.
• Supplement the exercise with slur repertoire such as Brouwer etudes, Giuliani, etc…
